East Portland is an area of diversity. The school districts are working to help their students graduate best prepared to meet the challenges of adult living when they graduate from high school. The Superintendents of Centennial, David Douglas, Parkrose and Reynolds School Districts will share the context within which they see their school district and how they are working to meet the needs of their students.

The speakers include:

Dr. Paul Coakley, Superintendent of Centennial School District. Dr. Coakley was hired to be Centennial School District’s Superintendent in 2018. H began his school administrator career in 2008 as the Principal of Hudson Park Elementary School in the Rainier School District, Rainier, Oregon. After six years as Principal, he became Rainier’s Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction. In 2014, Dr. Coakley was hired by Centennial School District as Assistant Superintendent/Human Resources Director. Before becoming a school administrator, he taught in Portland Public Schools and in Champaign, IL. Dr. Coakley also serves as a Professor at Portland State University in the school administrator Initial Administrative Licensure program and on the Oregon Leadership Network Executive Committee. 

Ken Richardson, Superintendent of David Douglas School District. In 2016 David Douglas schools named their new superintendent: Ken Richardson, who had served as a top administrator in the district since 2009, most recently as deputy superintendent. Richardson came to David Douglas from neighboring Reynolds school district, where he worked as a coach, classroom teacher, school counselor, school administrator and human resources administrator. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Portland, his masters of education from Lewis & Clark, and received his administrative license from the University of Portland.

Michael Lopes-Serrao, Superintendent of Parkrose School District.  He was named Superintendent of Parkrose School District in 2018. He has been with the district for the last 18 years. He was principal at Prescott Elementary School for 11 years and Director of School Improvement and Assistant Superintendent prior to becoming Superintendent of Parkrose. He has been in control of implementing AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) across the district and works with staff on technology use.


Dr. Danna Diaz, Superintendent of Reynolds School District. In 2018, Dr. Danna Diaz was hired as the Superintendent of Schools for Reynolds School District. She holds a Doctorate in Philosophy in Educational Administration from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Science Degree in Pre-School Education from University of Houston-Clear Lake, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Prior to joining Reynolds School District, she served as Superintendent of Schools for San Juan Island School District in Friday Harbor, WA. Before working with San Juan Island School District, she held Assistant Superintendent positions in El Paso, Texas and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and served as a central and school level administrator respectively in Fort Worth, Austin and Houston, Texas.


As there will be four members on this panel, the meeting will start at 7:45 am.
