Leach Garden Friends is the non-profit which operates Leach Botanical Garden in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation. The Garden began as the estate of Lilla & John Leach botanical explorers, community leaders and extraordinary couple. The Leaches left the nearly five acre estate and substantial botanical collection to the City. Today the Friends are about to launch $10 million in physical improvements at the Garden following several years of design work, community engagement, and fundraising. The current campus of the Garden comprises nearly seventeen acres.

Founded in 1981, LGF is a largely volunteer organization with a small paid staff. The organization has not had an Operations position in the past. The planned growth in size and complexity of the Friends will require integration of functions in this position to support the community-engagement and resource generation of the Executive Director.
The Operations Officer helps ensure we have systems and controls in place to support effective and efficient running of the organization. The Operations Officer works to implement, evaluate, and improve operational practices while maintaining compliance with local, state and federal laws and contributing to a responsive, welcoming and community friendly cultural organization.
The Operations Officer works closely with the Executive Director to manage paid staff and numerous volunteers. The Operations Officer supports the Board of Directors’ vision through managing and implementing activities required for smooth operation of the business side of LGF under direction of the Executive Director.
The Operations Manager will be responsible for data entry, accounts payable, payroll, grant report entry, managing organization HR, helping and creating organizational and program budgets in collaboration with the ED, and other tasks as assigned.
Reporting to the ED and serving as a member of the management team along with the ED, this position's primary responsibility is ensuring organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for the organization's financial, administrative and operational functions. The position also contributes to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.
