GEAC: Voter Education, Rank Choice Voting (September 09, 2026)

On Second Wednesdays, our Government and Economic Affairs Committee (GEAC) hosts the meeting and brings important presentations to the table. We'd also like to extend a thank you to Morningstar at Laurelhurst for allowing us to use their meeting room each month!

At this meeting, we will hear information about Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) for City of Portland and Multnomah County candidate contests. Ranked choice voting allows voters to rank up to 6 candidates in order of preference instead of choosing only one candidate. In the November 3, 2026 General Election, the following contests will use ranked choice voting for 2 positions. Join us on Sept 9 to learn more!

Inner Eastside Zoning Project (September 16, 2026)

Join us at Norse Hall to learn all about this City of Portland project. The Inner Eastside Zoning Project will change zoning to allow for a greater variety of housing types and increase opportunities for neighborhood businesses in Portland’s Inner Eastside neighborhoods. The goal is to make this desirable area – with great access to jobs, public transportation, and everyday needs – more accessible to all. The project will consider changes to the locations of commercial zoning to expand where businesses are allowed, such as by allowing corner stores in residential areas and widening commercial zoning along corridors such as Hawthorne and Division.

Travel Portland 101 (November 18, 2026)

Join us to hear from Travel Portland representatives, Yoko Furukawa from the International Tourism team and Angela Nelson from the Equity and Partnerships team. They'll provide a Travel Portland 101 overview, including an introduction to the organization, partnership program and an overview of international tourism efforts.
